End of Week 4, on to Week 5
Well, the big news to report since paint went on the walls is that we have our laundry machines back! It's been a challenge to be without them, and it makes me appreciate them so much more. And now they take up less room, as Jim and Todd stacked them in the master closet. When we get our closet back, laundry can pretty much get hung up Right Away. What. So that's super exciting.
Next week they'll finish up the paint in the kitchen, doing other touch-ups later.
JB was by last Thursday to take out all the old protective floor paper that was just saturated with drywall dust, and replaced it with shiny new paper that will take on more dust I assume, as the powder settles and as we and workers and dogs tromp across it. In that regard, it's almost a pain to have kept the "old" wood floor, but that's just it, it's not "old," it's relatively new and really pretty.
We understand that cabinets won't arrive until this coming Monday, so Week 5 will be a bit of a lull, a dead week. Though it's possible the new back door will arrive soon, so there's that to look forward to. But then cabinets next week! And soon granite! Appliances are in and our dining room area can finally be un-filled with kitchen bits! The hood is in there, the lights are in there, the oven is in there, our fridge is in there -- it's supposed to be a dining room, or maybe a music room someday, not a random bit of storage area! Soon, my pet, patience... Things will move quickly in these coming weeks, and we can hardly wait.
In other news, I've finished my first week of teaching, and I pretty much love all my students. They are varied in their knowledge and experience, and they all tolerated me babbling for hours on end. I can't wait to make them do the work, start baking, start talking some more.
My Friday class is full to the gills at 18, one wanted to switch out and another wants to switch in, and I've allowed yet three more on the waiting list to join in. When they show up to class the first day and actually really want to be there, Imma say yes right back to them and hope for the best. I have a fabulous lab assistant who just knows what to do and is efficient and really knowledgeable about pastry and savory. We got this.
And on that note, I'm going to try to make a short video on quick breads. I shot some footage back in July and I've only just installed Premiere Pro on a computer that can actually handle video. Let's see how that goes. Now that I've said it, I have to do it...and I did it! I want some feedback from my cousin, the REAL video guy, but maybe I'll share the link with you all.
Thanks for reading!
