A Cabinet Post? A Cabinet Post!

If you know us (and if you're reading this, I think you do), you'll know that one of our favorite films is "Blazing Saddles."  And if you know that film, you'll know that Hedey (that's Hedley!) Lamar at one point is convincing the GOV (played by Mel Brooks) to appoint Bart (played brilliantly by Clevon Little) as the first Black Sheriff of Rock Ridge, that by doing so he could guarantee himself...
"A Cabinet Post!"
"A Cabinet Post! Did you say that?"
"I said that."
"Wonderful!"
Whereupon the Gov whacks his head hard on the wall in his enthusiasm for said cabinet post.  Or okay, in response to his name secured in the annals of western history and yet again with the further possibility of the presidency, yeah yeah...

We are similarly ecstatic.

So. We have cabinets. So this is a Cabinet Post (I know.  I had to).  Many of them are set up in their new homes.  Others are still in the garage, waiting to be hung on the walls later this week.  They are quality. They are sturdy.  They close by themselves! They are all we'd hoped for and more.  Check it out.

This will be my "baking nook", countertop space to the left and the double oven in the space on the right

This will be the island.  The sink will go in that cabinet right in front of you.

This will be the "landing area" for coats and bags and krep, and to the right, the Pantry.  Serious shelving here!

This is the main galley of the kitchen, darned spacious we think.

This Susan will be anything but Lazy...

And in case you were wondering about our other idiotic let's-work-in-the-hot-summer-sun-project, the fence, well, here's the progress we made today while the boys were inside trimming up cabinetry:

The southern fence, towards CG Road (lookit the difference!)

The northern fence, towards Wyalusing, I guess.
We haven't finished that whole laborious process of cleaning and brightening the rest of the fence. But yesterday we trimmed out a wallop of shrubbery so we could get closer to the fence in order to clean and stain it.  Current thought is to clean and brighten the outside of the fence, so that all who can really see it are thoroughly impressed with its grandeur (;-) ), and to skimp a bit on the inside of the fence and just plain stain it, as it'll be mostly covered with said shrubbery and no one but us will know that we didn't do the other back-breaking steps.

Staining, by the way, is a glorious pain.  There's oil plus stain in the stuff we're using, so whether we had a tarp down to protect our neighbors' grass or not, it was slippery as the dickens when you tried to walk around on anything near the staining area.  But the tarp was nice, because I could use a roller or a paint brush to pick up excess and slap it on the fence, anywhere the sprayer seemed to miss.  When I got tired of chasing the roller (it wanted to pop off the metal roller device very often), I used a hand-held dish of stain and a paint brush to catch the drier spots. Thank God for the borrowed sprayer; it would have been a hell of a job if we'd had to brush or roll on by hand.

We are so tickled with the results.  But we are freaking exhausted too.

It was a long Sunday-night-into-Monday-morning -- Cici probably stepped in some of the brightener solution that we'd washed off the fence, and came in very agitated and acting as if her foot were on fire.  At 10 p.m. we took her to the emergency vet, where they gave her the best care they could and un-/fortunately couldn't do lots for her, except soak the foot in water. She finally calmed down and stopped worrying it so much. They charged us a visit fee, the cheapest emergency vet visit EVER of $83, and we were back home by 12:30 or so.  I slept well, having already popped half a sleeping pill before this lovely event, but Jim was worried all night and was also kicked often by Rosie in Doggie Dreamland.  He's a good sport to have been in such a decent mood all day.

Next steps include measuring actual cabinet dimensions and getting those numbers to granite countertop folks, so they can cut and deliver our beautiful countertops.  Also hanging the top row of cabinets.  Plumbing and electrical finish are on our list for this week, I think. Later on will be tiling the backsplash.

Have I mentioned lately that I'm probably the luckiest girl alive?  This is going to be a Kick-Ass Kitchen.
