Kitchen Remodel: Day Two
Another big day of changes here at the House of Pippitt. These guys are great workers and have done SO much in just a couple of days.
The big door to the back yard came out, and Cici also seized the opportunity to sneak out of said door opening and the fence gate hadn't *quite* closed... Doggie walkabout! Luckily Jim had just walked her, she was pretty hot, and he found her roaming around the Inside of the big subdivision fence. Whew. She finally got her chance to explore the new neighborhood, but not without scaring the crap out of us, AND on her "gotcha day" 7th anniversary. Anyway, that's one heart attack averted; we're really glad she's safe. All the dogs went to sister-in-law's house after that adventure! Besides, it was really noisy today; if I'd been a dog, I'd have sought a quieter, calmer place too.
A temporary door is in place for the nonce, and will open out instead of in, as I understand it.
The window in the old pantry went away and is now covered over. A strong, fancy header went up between old pantry and kitchen area, laminations aplenty.
The electrician is roughing in what feels like a million outlets, and we are tickled pink.
Floor coverings went down in the kitchen and higher traffic areas.
I met the tile guy as he was coming out the door with the carpet from the walk-in closet. He'll get that area tiled soon so we can get the laundry area moving in the right direction.
Jim's been wishing for a darkroom downstairs in the basement, and the framing guys framed him in some walls today (pictured below, and we're not letting him out of the cage. Just kidding.). Jim and I will get to do the drywalling at some point. Electrical guy will rough in a couple of outlets for us, so the darkroom will be a reality sooner than we'd hoped! It feels like they're throwing in the work, but I'm sure it will appear on the bill, as it should. :)
What cracks me up about the new darkroom is that the old cabinets that are in there are the ones we removed/recycled from the old house when we remodeled that kitchen, way back in '97.
Tomorrow we should have a "kitchen" sink hooked up in the darkroom, thanks to our friends who gave us a gorgeous stainless steel sink a while back. Sanitation standards will be reinstated. :)
So yeah, sh*t is getting Done with Dolores around here. I wish I were more helpful in the project. But golly it's good to have some fine professional help here. We are super lucky and really grateful. And thanks for reading my laundry list -- writing skills lacking today.
