End of Week 3
Sorry I have been absent for a bit. But it's been a little slow around here, so there's not been that much to report.
Okay, so the tile floors have been grouted, but they're all under cover so excess dirt doesn't end up in the grout. But they're beautiful, even though I can't see them or show them just yet!
The drywall guys have been here a bit this week, patching up giant holes or gaps in the drywall, and patching divots where old backsplash tile used to be, or where closet mountings used to be. It will be a bit of a process, as there's a fair amount to build up and then (yay, dust) sand down to something far prettier.

I'm guessing next week will bring us to painting. And then the rumor is that "things go pretty quick after that." I'm ready! Now that so much drywall is looking closer to the real thing, it's feeling like a truly "habitable" room, something that will be so shiny and new and fancy and fabulous...
Did I mention that only our backup sump pump suddenly worked? We've fixed the main sump and boy has it been working since we've had so much rain. Only today did it dawn on me that our neighbor's sump has been working All The Time and ours never did, probably Because ours never did.
Today Jim installed a long hose on our sump exhaust so it could water further along the back yard. I didn't get to witness this part, but he said that Cici was chasing and pawing at the splashing water from the sump exhaust. Silly girl.
Oh, and hey, the dumpster went away this week! It was Really Full of water, and it was not a pretty smell as they tipped the dumpster on its end to get it loaded back on the truck. Eesh. But that's faded, and it's really nice to be able to park in our own driveway again.

Jim has been Mister Project Boy this week, clearing up the garage and making storage better, more efficient. AND he did three loads of laundry this week, God bless him. I still gotta fold it, but that's a fair cop. It'll wait.
I've been away from construction a lot these last two weeks, teaching a couple weeks right before school actually starts. It's been a real challenge and I hope I can learn from this experience. I feel like it's taken a lot of my time and soul and that stress plus my own stress at home makes it hard to sleep... Whine and moan, I have serious first-world problems compared to others. We all have lots to deal with.
Tonight was a bit of a victory for us, again, first-world problems -- we grilled a few sausages and vegetables on the grill, the whole situation was prepped in our pretend kitchen and it was just really nice to cook for ourselves, sorta-mostly. Better than other random meals lately or leftovers -- just something we were able to execute ourselves. Grateful for take-n-bake bread and even grocery-store sausages. Not awful and almost felt normal.
It's good to be a third of the way through this thing. Good to remember about all the details of self-care and how the hell to get laundry done. Good to see that our closets are mostly upstairs and our "kitchen" is way downstairs in the basement. Good to remember the challenges and save them for the days when we'll have it so easy, when we have a kitchen we love. Hang on, we got this.
