We have drywall!
Don't judge. It's great to have walls. It decreases our perceived space by about 4 inches, but it sounds different now. We have insulation in the new inside wall, so it feels warmer. Now we've just had to up our mad skeels in taping and mudding the drywall, not to mention the part about driving the screws in Just So -- not too deep and not too shallow, and heaven forbid, not crooked. Regardless, mudding is all about bringing everything up to level -- screws, big fat gaps in the drywall seams, and even sanding down old textures and mudding that up too. Let's get it (mostly) all (mostly) smooth so we can put a fresh coat of texture on (or not, jury's still out) and start fresh with pretty walls.
When the world slips you a Jeffrey, you just stroke the furry walls...
Oops, sorry...
We are currently at Coat Number Three of the heavier mudding compound. We'll decide soon whether we need one more coat of the heavy stuff or whether we need to switch to the lighter mudding compound for the last bit before priming and painting. We'd take any input you've got, as we are absolute newbies at this. Poor Jim has been doing a lot of work, sanding and even mudding, with his one good left hand. He's almost two weeks into the cast and is ready to chew it off with his teeth. Or perhaps CiCi would help him chew it off. She's kind of a biter.
Loud, large props go out to a certain friend who came over and gave us a Master Class on How to Mud. I probably could have figured this all out from the InterWebs, but it's really helpful to have some hands-on, personal training to figure this all out. Nice to hear that we "can't do it wrong."
Thanks for reading -- commentary and jeerings are welcome.

Todd's measuring Skeels are unparalleled. Got those crazy electrical box cutouts right where he wanted them. |
