Well, good news/bad news, folks. Reconstruction of the bathroom is happening, slow and sure, and I'll present evidence of that here in a moment. But let's take a moment to mourn the break in Jim's metacarpal in the third finger on his dominant hand. "Ringer" is broke-ass, in the vernacular of the land.

Te benedigo. |
Eeeyeah. He was drilling a spot for an electrical box above our closet, and the header wood was really thick. He was using his Most Powerful Drill with a 1" bit. In one unfortunate tiny moment in time, the bit stuck in the wood and the drill (and Jim's hand) kept rotating. He thought right away he'd broken his hand. I thought, "Nah. Who does that?" But when the swelling persisted and the bruising on his hand looked like he'd been in a bar fight, on Monday it was finally time to get it checked out. Tuesday will bring him a real cast. I will win no Wife of the Year awards. But I did nag him to ice it and tried to get Ibuprofen in him.
He thought gin was a better anaesthetic.
Meh, who am I to judge? *shrug*
So that injury will make this remodel a little more interesting. Looks like
I'll be the one learning to do drywall mud and tape when that time comes?
Here's what's been happening, for those of you following the Tales of the Bathroom Demolition:
 |
Old Flange, Rusted. Not to mention that lovely moist and moldy subfloor. |
 |
When in doubt, cut that flange off with a thingy. Emit showers of sparks. Don't forget the large side dish of black dust all over. |
 |
Between the hammer (Smiter) and the cutter thing, the sewer pipe is now cut and ready for the new flange. |
 |
Measure thrice and cut once... |
 |
Subfloor after new flange installed, toilet replaced. |
The new f
loor is a short 1/8" lower than the existing floor, but I'm hoping the vinyl installers can bump that up with some cool feathering/leveling compound. Otherwise we'll feel that little bump at the toe kick. Said vinyl installers are to be here tomorrow! Hope we're ready for them by the end of today because I really don't want to call them at such a late hour to have them change their schedule.
The guys have been busy with electricals too, and we're real close to being ready for inspection.
 |
Cutting the opening for the bathroom fan. |
 |
Fan box installed, wired, but not yet ducted. Had to be dropped in from the attic. Yay, Todd! |
 |
New electrical box for main light fixture above the mirror. |
 |
Main light switch box. Bathroom and back bedroom are now on two different circuits, per code. |
 |
Electrical box in header above closet, aka Jim's Metacarpal's Nemesis |
One more electrical box to be replaced, and that should happen today. Then I think we can call for an electrical inspection.
Then there's the matter of ducting the bathroom fan, which I hope will not present too much drama.
I trust Todd, but I'm not optimistic about the lack of drama either!
Wednesday is flooring install, and after that, I guess there's maybe plumbing inspection? Gotta put insulation in the walls and firestop foam in the places it's supposed to be. More inspection.
Then I guess I get to become Drywall Diva? Wish us luck, folks... Stay tuned for the next episode of Tales of the Bathroom
Demolition Reconstruction!
